HUMBLE, TX (Jan. 24, 2017) — The Shell Houston Open field gains three stellar international players with No. 37 Bernd Wiesberger, No. 43 Lee Westwood and No. 48 Andy Sullivan having accepted sponsor invitations, announced Tournament Director Steve Timms.
Making his second appearance at the Shell Houston Open, Austrian Bernd Wiesberger No. 37 in the World Golf Rankings, is coming off a strong performance at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship where he finished tied for 4th. Englishman Lee Westwood is currently ranked No. 43 in the world and coming off a tie for 8thplace finish in Abu Dhabi. Westwood is making his 10th start in Houston. Both Wiesberger and Westwood are in the 2017 Masters field.
Andy Sullivan will make his Shell Houston Open debut. Currently ranked No. 48 in the World Golf Rankings, Sullivan is coming off the best season of his career in 2016 and has also qualified for the Masters. Austin, Texas native Beau Hossler has been extended an unrestricted sponsor exemption. Hossler turned professional after a stellar career at The University of Texas at Austin. The recipient of the 2016 Fred Haskins Award as Nation’s Top Collegiate Golfer and ranked #1 in Golfweek’s Men’s World Amateur Ranking, Hossler is making his PGA TOUR debut this week at the Farmers Insurance Open.
The 2017 Shell Houston Open will be played the week of March 27-April 2 at the Golf Club of Houston Tournament Course. Players have until March 24 (Friday before tournament week) to commit.
