HUMBLE, TX (Feb. 08, 2017) — Patrick Reed of Spring, No. 10 in the World Golf Rankings, is among the latest commitments for the Shell Houston Open, announced Tournament Director Steve Timms. Reed is joining two other local favorites, Jhonattan Vegas and Shawn Stefani to compete the week of March 30-April 2 at the Golf Club of Houston Tournament Course.
Known as one of the most passionate players on the PGA TOUR with five PGA TOUR victories, Patrick Reed is playing his third consecutive Shell Houston Open. Reed, only 26, is coming off a career high in 2016 having played an instrumental role in leading the United States to victory in the 2016 Ryder Cup and representing the U.S. in the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio. He finished 3rd place in the overall FedExCup standings for the 2015-2016 season.
Joining the 2017 Shell Houston Open field is fan favorite, Venezuelan native and Houstonian, Jhonattan Vegas. Vegas 2015-2016 season highlights include a win at the RBC Canadian Open to qualify for the 2017 Masters and a career best 29th finish in the FedExCup rankings, making it to the finals for the first time. Vegas represented Venezuela in the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. He played collegiate golf for The University of Texas.
Baytown native Shawn Stefani also announced his commitment to play at the Shell Houston Open. Stefani has deep roots in Texas, playing HGA Junior Golf and going on to play collegiate golf at Lamar University. Stefani finished 5th in the 2014 Shell Houston Open and 2017 will be his 5th consecutive start.
The 2017 Shell Houston Open will be played the week of March 27-April 2 at the Golf Club of Houston Tournament Course. Players have until March 24 (Friday before tournament week) to commit. They may also withdraw on or before that date with no penalty. Tickets and future player information will be available at shellhoustonopen.com.
