HUMBLE, TX (Feb. 15, 2017) —Shell Houston Open added eight past champions to the 2017 field, announced Tournament Director Steve Timms. Returning to compete at the Golf Club of Houston Tournament Course March 30-April 2 is the 2016 defending champion, Jim Herman along with 2007 champion Adam Scott. They are joining past champions J.B. Holmes (2015), Matt Jones (2014), D.A. Points (2013), Hunter Mahan (2012), Johnson Wagner (2008), and Stuart Appleby (1999 and 2006).
Jim Herman recently earned his first top-10 finish since winning the 2016 Shell Houston Open at the Sony Open in Hawaii. Herman is defending his title among a growing list of top-ranked players from around the world.
Ranked No. 7 in the World Golf Rankings, Australian native Adam Scott is making his first appearance at the SHO since 2008. Scott, 2013 Masters champion, has 13 PGA TOUR titles, 13 international victories and is coming off a strong 2015-16 season with top-10 finishes in all four FedExCup Playoff events. Fellow Australian natives joining Scott include Matt Jones (2014) and two-time SHO winner Stuart Appleby (1999 and 2006). Jones, whose 2015-16 season record posted three top-25 finishes, will be making his 5th consecutive Shell Houston Open start. With nine PGA TOUR victories, Appleby will make his 15th appearance at the Shell Houston Open.
Currently ranked No. 32 in the World Golf Rankings, J.B. Holmes will compete for his 5th PGA TOUR title. Holmes will join former champions Hunter Mahan (2012) and D.A. Points (2013). Fan favorite, Shell ambassador and 2008 SHO champion Johnson Wagner is making his 11th consecutive start at the Shell Houston Open. Wagner, Jones and Herman all gained entry into the Masters by winning the SHO.
The 2017 Shell Houston Open will be played the week of March 27-April 2 at the Golf Club of Houston Tournament Course. Players have until March 24 (Friday before tournament week) to commit.
