Mickelson shares first-round lead

Defending champion Phil Mickelson, Carl Pettersson of Sweden and Angel Cabrera of Argentina shared the first-round lead at 7-under-par 65. First-round play resumed at 7:30 AM on Friday and concluded at 1:05 PM. Thursday's play was suspended at 1:27 PM due to inclement weather. A total of 51 players completed play and 24 did not start.
Jeff Maggert, making his 24th start in the Shell Houston Open, Ricky Barnes, Greg Owen and John Huh shot 66, followed by Bud Cauley, Kyle Bradley and James Driscoll with 67s.
Just over 1-inch of rain pelted Redstone Golf Club — Tournament Course on Thursday afternoon. The last time a round was delayed by weather was 2009 when the first round was halted at 12:49 PM and suspended at 3 PM due to wind.
