Countdown to SHO
Quail Valley 3rd The First Tee of Greater Houston green-grass location

Quail Valley Golf Course in Missouri City, Texas is now the third location for The First Tee® of Greater Houston.

Quail Valley was the site of the 1973 and 1974 Shell Houston Open PGA TOUR tournaments. The City of Missouri City's family-friendly golf course will allow The First Tee of Greater Houston to deliver entry level life skills programming at its existing facilities while additional funding is being raised to construct a learning center dedicated solely for purposes of The First Tee delivery.

The First Tee is a worldwide youth development program that uses golf as a mechanism to help youngsters understand and implement the Nine Core Values, plus the Nine Healthy Habits.

The Nine Core Values are: honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy and judgment. The Nine Healthy Habits are: energy, play, safety, vision, mind, family, friends, school and community.

As a proposed green-grass facility of The First Tee of Greater Houston, Quail Valley Golf Course joins Redstone Golf Club in Humble, TX and Houston Oaks Country Club & Family Sports Retreat in Hockley, TX as programming locations of the chapter. The Houston Golf Association, promoter of the Shell Houston Open PGA TOUR event, holds the charter for The First Tee of Greater Houston.

In addition to the Quail Valley Golf Course green grass location, The First Tee In-School Program is currently in 11 elementary schools within Fort Bend Independent School District. The First Tee of Greater Houston currently ranks No. 2 in outreach in a global network of nearly 200 chapters. Programming is now being delivered annually to more than 88,000 youngsters through efforts of the Houston Golf Association's community impact activities.

Initial curriculum delivery will be led by Sugar Land resident and volunteer The First Tee Coach Roger Dauzat. "I am thrilled and very excited The First Tee programming is coming to Quail Valley and Missouri City," says the 2011 recipient of the George H.W. Bush/Shell Oil Company "Volunteer of the Year" Award.

"The number of people who have made inquiries about volunteering and enrolling their child in programming has far exceeded my expectations." Dauzat says he is looking for more volunteers and invites those interested to attend a volunteer training session on Aug. 30 at 5 PM.

Programming begins Sept. 22 for young people ages 7-18 and the initial new member orientation for parents/guardians will take place on Sept. 11 at 6 PM. Registration is handled on a first-come, first-served basis at www.thefirstteegreaterhouston.org.
