More star power for the Shell Houston Open. Steve Stricker, No. 4 in the world golf rankings, is the latest PGA TOUR player among the Top 10 to commit to tee it up in the Shell Houston Open the week of March 31-April 6 at Redstone Golf Club – Tournament Course.
Stricker joins No. 2 Phil Mickelson, No. 3 Ernie Els, No. 5 Adam Scott (defending champion) and No. 6 K.J. Choi in the field. No. 11-ranked Padraig Harrington of Ireland, the current British Open champion, and No. 16-ranked Angel Cabrera of Argentina, the current U.S. Open champion, are also in the fold.
Stricker, runner-up in the season-opening Mercedes Tournament of Champions, has finished 9th and 3rd the past two years on the Redstone Golf Club – Tournament Course.
SHO Tournament Director Steve Timms also announced that three Texans are new on the commitment list. Chad Campbell, winner of the 2003 TOUR Championship played at Houston’s Champions Golf Club, and former British Open winner Justin Leonard join local favorite Jeff Maggert.
Players have until March 28 to commit to the tournament. They also may withdraw at any time with no penalty by that date.
