Volunteer Opportunities

All Shell Houston Open volunteers must be at least 21 years of age. Most volunteers are required to purchase a uniform to wear while performing duties during tournament week. Here are the committees in need of volunteers:

HOSPITALITY: Provide information and assistance to corporate hospitality suite holders at their private entrances. Assist the Marshals with noise control during tournament play.

LASERS (ShotLink): Operate laser measurement devices on fairways and greenside to provide on-course, real time data input to the PGA TOUR's ShotLink Scoring and Statistics System. ShotLink lasers are similar to survey equipment. NEW volunteers must attend a brief, but mandatory training session.

WALKING SCORERS: Walk with players and enter hole by hole scores into a hand held Palm Pilot device providing on-course, real time scoring (must be able to walk 18 holes). Also, assist with non-walking scoring tasks.

MARSHALS: Provide gallery control, ball spotting, etc. Marshals will be assigned to a specific hole/location on course all week. Representatives of the marshal committee may be asked to operate ShotLink laser equipment in the fairways.

FLYING SQUAD: Assist with transition of players, assist with gallery control, ball spotting, course evacuation, shuttle services, etc. Flying Squad is a transitional position and will not be assigned to a specific hole.

TRANSPORTATION: Assist in transporting players, their families and VIP guests to and from hotel, golf course and airport. Shifts are available as early as the Friday BEFORE tournament week through the Monday AFTER.

CARTS/CART SUPPORT: Assist with distribution of committee assigned golf carts and provide spectator or other shuttle service when needed.

ON-COURSE SHUTTLE: Assist with on-course shuttling needs of contestants. (Clubhouse to practice areas, practice areas to starting tee, etc.)

MISCELLANEOUS: Any volunteer not previously assigned to a committee. Volunteer will fill in areas where needed. Such areas may include, but not limited to: Will Call, Information Booth, Marshals, Shot-Link, Hospitality, Buses - Arrivals & Departures, Office Administration, etc.
