has used the power of the Shell Houston Open PGA TOUR event to annually generate six-figure contributions for local 501c (3) non-profit groups since 1999. With a new date one week prior to The Masters tournament, the Houston Golf Association anticipates the opportunity for this program to step to a new level. Through the 2006 Shell Houston Open, Birdies for Charity has generated more than $4.3 million for local worthy causes. It costs qualified organizations nothing but their time. The HGA passes on 100% of the collected pledges to program participants while underwriting the hard costs of the program.
HGA staff members work on the administration of the program from kickoff to completion of collection of pledges. The HGA also provides collateral material to each organization and continues to strive to elevate the program. Now available is an updated private secure web site where each participating organization can enter its pledges. One more key point: Thanks to the continued support from the Buick Motor Division of General Motors, the grand prize in the Guess-the-Birdies contest will be a 2008 Buick automobile.
