 About Birdies for Charity
  • The Houston Golf Association (HGA) sponsors the Birdies for Charity (BFC) program in conjunction with the Shell Houston Open, a PGA TOUR event held annually at Redstone Golf Club each spring.

  • The HGA is a non-profit, tax exempt 501c (3) organization whose mission is a chance for children.  The HGA has entered into a licensing agreement with Birdies for Charity ®, a non-profit tax exempt corporation established in the state of Iowa.

  • The Houston Golf Association’s objectives for the BFC program is to increase charitable contributions derived from the Shell Houston Open and expand the number of charity organizations benefiting from the tournament through a unique, no-cost, no-risk fund raising program.

  • The primary goal for BFC is to successfully solicit and collect minimum pledges of one cent (1¢) or more for each “Birdies” made by the professional players during the Shell Houston Open or obtain a minimum contribution amount of $20 from any individual or business.

  • To encourage contributors, the BFC pledge program includes a “Guess the Birdies” contest.  The contributor who makes a minimum pledge of one cent per birdie or a minimum contribution of $20 is able to guess the total number of birdies that will be made by the PGA TOUR players Wednesday through Sunday during the Shell Houston Open.  Grand prize winner receives a new Buick automobile.

  • The future growth of the BFC program is unlimited.  In its first committed year, 1999, the Birdies for Charity program generated over $210,000 to 77 participating charity organizations.  Since that time, BFC has annually generated nearly $500,000 in collected pledges.
